Why a new Group?
Indeed there are many groups on the internet that are dedicated to
art. We belong to a few of them and have migrated through several
others. The common problem with all of these groups is that they are
not select and usually have too much chatter for a dedicated artist to
handle. We don't want a venue that changes us from Artists to Computer
devotees. We want to use the computers and the internet to communicate and
build a sense of community. We also want to build a group of like
minded and like skilled artists.
Elitism?
That may be viewed as elitist. We would like to address that. Groups
by nature are selective. In the world around us, like minded people
become groups when they recognize a common purpose and decide to work
together to achieve a common goal. If the group is homogenous, it
develops and grows. If it is an open group where all are welcome, a
process of self selection takes place and the lowest common
denominator wins out. Simply, we would like to avoid that.
Group Dynamics:
Entry to the group is juried. The jury is
charged with safeguarding the quality of the group and admitting new
members based on their work and dedication to Watercolours. The jury's
decision is final. Applicants are welcome to reapply after one year if
they are rejected. The jury and it's deliberation are private and
applications that are rejected will not be a matter of public record.
The group has many activities such as monthly projects and studies of master
works. These are optional based on your time and need or
desire.
As a minimal participation, The group requires members to submit at
least 6 works per year for review and to do at least 6 in depth
critiques of works submitted by other members. This is not to be
misunderstood as the purpose of the group, but rather as a means to
make sure that members are active in art and in the group as well. The
other element that is required is a propensity to share. Sharing
ideas, techniques, discoveries and all else that we may run across on
our common journey as artists.
